Nov. 7, 2018—U.S. News & World Report has named The Harbors at The Admiral at the Lake one of Chicago’s Best Nursing Homes for 2018–19. The Admiral was identified as a top performer along with 18 others among the 79 nursing homes in the city included in a U.S. News report released Oct. 30.
The report rated the care of a wide range of resident conditions at The Admiral, including both long-term chronic care and shorter-term rehabilitation. The Admiral was rated High Performing for short-stay rehabilitation and Better than Average overall.
The data used to evaluate nursing homes came from the federal Nursing Home Compare program. It incorporates nurse staffing, health inspection and quality measures star ratings. In addition to these measures, U.S. News assessed nursing homes based on the appropriateness of the therapy minutes provided to residents, as well as the consistency of their reported nurse staffing across self-reported and payroll-based reporting systems.
U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 homes nationwide, in every state and nearly 100 major metropolitan areas.
“Several million Americans will spend at least some time in a nursing home this year, whether undergoing rehab after a hospital stay or as long-term residents,” said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News. “Finding a nursing home that meets an individual’s specific needs can be overwhelming. The Best Nursing Home ratings are designed to help potential residents and their families navigate this important decision.”
